The Government of Karnataka has introduced State Awards for best performance in exports from 1992-93 as one of the important steps towards recognizing the efforts of exporters. The presentation of awards for outstanding export performance is an annual event, aimed at boosting exporters who have excelled in exporting the products / commodities. This award also stimulates prospective exporters and others to foray into the international trade space, thereby fostering a spirit of healthy competition amongst the industries and exporters of the State to achieve greater export performance.

Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, is the nodal agency of the Government of Karnataka for the selection and conferring of awards to the exporters for their best performance.

The Government vide its Order No: CI 26 SPI 2012, dated 18/09/2013 has modified the eligibility criteria & categories for Export Awards as per the MSMED Act.

The Emerging Sectors considered for Export Awards include the following:

Agricultural & Horticulture Commodities including Coffee, Cashews & Spices Processed foods
Readymade Garments: Cotton, Woollen & Silk Electronics & Communication (excluding IT & ITES sector)
Electricals Engineering Sector (Machine Tools, Automobile and Aerospace)
Handicrafts (including Arts & Crafts) Mineral & Mineral based products (excluding Iron Ore)
Textiles: Cotton, Wool & Silk Gems & Jewellery
Petroleum & Petroleum Products Chemicals and Plastics
Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Marine Products
Leather Products Services Sector (Tourism, Health, Education, Hospitality, Engineering etc., )
